Active Space Designs was established in 1999 by Marguerite Gerber. She studied BA(BK) Information Design at the University of Pretoria for four years.
After studying, the traveling bug bit her and she ventured off to see the world as a traveling photographer. Her travels took her to the most amazing places, like Alaska, Bermuda, the French Polynesian islands and Bora-Bora, San Francisco, Los Angeles, the Caribbean, the Amazon river, Argentina, even Antarctica (!), Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Cape Verde islands, Portugal, Barcelona, Malaga, the French Riviera and the beautiful Cannes, Marseilles, Italy with its magnificent Florence and Pisa, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen and so many more...
This gave her an appreciation for beauty in the everyday things around her and for good design in particular. Its amazing how every country has its own 'identity' that is visible in everyday life, not just in language and culture. The colour schemes of the houses are different, the lines, the shapes, the people...
The traveling also taught her that your 'Space' is only as big as where you, draw the borders. Most of what happens in our lives starts with dreaming... and as you all know, dreaming is border-less! We all so easily confine ourselves to what we all too realistically think is possible, and off-course our ever present current circumstances. This made her believe even more in her dreams, and even if all of it is not yet possible, there are no borders as we work towards our dream!
We need to create things in life that make the world more beautiful, and do not flood the market and environment with unnecessary information and bad design. All of us - in whatever we do...
